The Philippines is home to the most biologically diverse waters on Earth, and the area around Puerto Galera is a biodiversity hotspot! Safety, environmental protection and adventure are the core principles of the EACY Dive School, managed and operated by Stairway Foundation Inc.

Puerto Galera’s incredible biodiversity as seen by scientists!

The California Academy of Sciences (CAS) conducted an expedition in the water passage just north of Puerto Galera. Following the expedition, the CAS affirmed in a statement that the Philippines is the "center of the center" of marine biodiversity. "The Philippines is jam-packed with diverse and threatened species – it's one of the most astounding regions of biodiversity on Earth," says Terry Gosliner, PhD, senior curator of Invertebrate Zoology at the CAS and a Principal Investigator of the expedition. Over a period of 3 weeks, Terry Gosliner and his team discovered over 100 new species in the Verde Passage north of Puerto Galera. Through Stairway’s Environmental Awareness for Children and Youth (EACY) program and the Sea Adventure School (SAS) we do all we can to ensure that this incredible biodiversity is afforded the best possible chance of survival.
